On our way to San Sebastian, we made a pit stop at Bob’s Beer, a small brewery located in the town of Hasparren, France. Here we met, wait for it, Bob.
The name and face of Bob’s Beer, Bob Worboys is actually a Brit (don’t let the baret on the label fool you) who left his job, upped sticks and moved to Basque Country 8 years ago. Having been a hobby brewer previously, he founded the creatively named Bob’s Beer and has been going at it ever since. If you know any small business people, you probably recognize the story after that – hard work, grueling hours and no paycheck (at least at first). But hey, brewing beer and living in the rolling hills of the Basque Country, life could certainly be worse.
Nice truck, nice labels, and an obviously happy owner. But how was the beer?
Good point. We bought a 12 bottle case (you get a discount) so over the last week or so, we were able to try all 10 of the different beers Bob currently offers. To be honest, we were somewhat disappointed by a couple, a handful were good and a few were really nice. So a bit of a mixed bag in our opinion but overall really positive about the experience.
Man… that sounds like the life. I’m in. Just need to choose a locale and learn how to brew.
