We really should have been surfers (but it’s not too late and Alex at least is still feeling ambitious). The coastal town of Biarritz (thanks to Sandra for the recommendation!) is immensely beautiful and on our three day visit we managed to experience the sea in various moods, from crazy temper tantrum to fairly calm. The main beach was definitely a surfer spot but it was too cold for us to give it a go. We’ll have to wait for Portugal.

Dark clouds on our first night
The stormy sea. We actually sit at this bar tomorrow
Some amazing clouds on our walk back from dinner
The weather improved, but it was still pretty chilly
We had some great coffees at a local roaster. Everyone had a good laugh at Alex’s attempt to order in French
A great view on a relatively calm day
The surf rescue squad was running drills. Looked like hard work as we enjoyed a cold beer
Some extreme swimming. Alex’s dad probably would have enjoyed it out there too
Looking back from the cliff terrace bar
The views were stunning. Note the lighthouse in the background. We make it over there later
The view north along the main beach
A view of the lighthouse from a distance
248 steps to the top. Not recommended for people with heath problems or drunks. Yes, it actually said that
