We enjoyed a handful of days in Brittany stopping in the towns of Dinan (thanks to Katrine and Kristian for the suggestion) and Carnac. In Dinan, we walked the historic town center including the oldest (and apparently steepest) street in town, the old city fortifications and the river harbor, then caught the panoramic views from behind the basilica.
Along the way, we discovered the hipper side of Dinan, meeting a woman who ran the local antique shop and tattoo parlor (why not?), and sitting in the sun all afternoon listening to classic jazz records at Le Melody Nelson.
Carnac was a small local town, itself charming, but where the main attractions were the prehistoric stone megaliths. We hiked around the area both days through country fields (literally), fishing villages, and the impressive, almost inexplicable, ancient stone constructions. Many of the alignments have been degraded over the years, as stones were removed or roads paved through the sites, but you were still left in awe by the sheer scale of the undertaking and inspired to invent your own interpretation of their long lost meaning.
Wow, just so jealous 🙂 Dinan is very nice!! Have fun and enjoy!!
