2 weeks in sunny Vancouver

We were impossibly lucky with perfect sunny weather for almost our entire stay in Vancouver. We had been to this beautiful city a number of times before, but still managed to discover lots of new and exciting things with Kristina’s aunt Barbara. Although the seemingly never ending building boom and uncontrolled construction (a popular complaint in the area) has turned the city skyline into a chaotic jumble of nearly identical glass and steel condos and almost fully obscured the amazing mountain views, you still can’t help but be impressed by this city and the stunning natural beauty just a short drive in any direction. Some highlights from our time in Vancouver include:

  • a night at the Symphony hosted by Chris Hadfield (the singing Canadian astronaut if you haven’t heard of him),
  • a visit to the old fishing village of Steveston,
  • a couple of trips to the interestingly misnamed White Rock (actually a gray rock painted white) to visit Jani and Craig,
  • an evening at the Vancouver Art Gallery,
  • a great play called The Invisible Hand,
  • a drive up the coast to Lighthouse Park,
  • two trips to Granville Island,
  • an amazing boat trip,
  • and a number visits with Barbara’s friends who live in the area.

    Hi Kristina and Alex,
It was very nice to have at our home in Lions Bay and learn about your travels.
Have a wonderful time during the remaining days of your trip and please let us know when you are coming for a camping extravaganza at Porteau Cove. We will come and visit you at this amazing place 🙂
    Cheers,
    Grażyna and Marek
