December 13, 2015 – an unusually long day

Question: How do you manage to have 1 hour at the beach, 2 happy hours, 3 showers, 6 meals (2 breakfasts, 2 lunches and 2 dinners), a 6 hour plane flight, a 7 hour road trip, 14 hours of sleep, and squeeze in laundry, grocery shopping and drafting this blog post all in 1 day?

Answer: You live December 13th twice. Yes, we may have just unlocked the secret of time travel (or experienced the oddity of the International Date Line for the very first time).

Sunday, December 13, our last day in Fiji, was spent driving through the rainforest along the King’s Road back to Nadi. After a pretty amazing drive, we stopped for lunch in Lautoka before boarding the flight to Honolulu at 6.10 PM.

After crossing the IDL that evening we arrived in Honolulu at 1.40 AM on Sunday, December 13. We find this very amusing and it was especially fun to hear the pilot on the plane struggle to explain Honolulu time when we left Fiji, “Local time in Honolulu is 1 hour ahead… umm, and 1 day behind”.
